The end of 2010 saw the launch of two new products especially designed to facilitate the new technique of positioning implantable ports under ultrasound guidance:
POLYSITE® Echo: The first implantable port positioning kit dedicated to ultrasound-guided puncture. This contains all of the necessary accessory parts to use an ultrasound probe, a specific syringe to simplify the puncture stage and a high visibility echogenic needle which is highly visible under ultrasound to optimise positioning the venepuncture.
ECHO-Site®: Portable ultrasound. Very easy to use with a good quality image, light and ergonomic, used in combination with the POLYSITE®Echo, it offers doctors who want to perform ultrasound-guided punctures a complete solution.
This method is gradually becoming the ‘benchmark’ technique and is already notably an integral part of the recommendations for positioning implantable ports in England, the United States and more recently in France because of the lower complication rate associated with incorrect positioning and the increased catheter positioning success rate.
